Mexican Mobile Operator Uses Aicent's CDMA Roaming eXchange

5th August 2008 - San Jose, Calif.: Mexican mobile operator Iusacell is using Aicent’s CDMA Roaming eXchange (CRX) service to provide their subscribers CDMA-based data roaming in China in time for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Aicent’s CDMA Roaming eXchange will enable data roaming onto China’s CDMA network, operated by China Unicom (News - Alert). China Unicom’s CDMA network covers all of China and Hong Kong

Adrian Velasco, director of roaming at Iusacell noted that they are the only wireless cellular service provider in Mexico with a 3G CDMA EVDO platform which lets them offer their subscribers a wide range of telecommunications services, multimedia applications and data transmission.Velasco pointed out that a large number of Iusacell subscribers will be traveling to Beijing to cheer on the Mexican Olympic team, and thus it was important to them that while they travel in China they have access to the same services they have come to expect at home. Aicent’s CRX service minimized their technical integration yet provided Iusacell the means to offer seamless international data roaming on CDMA networks for our subscribers, in time for the start of the Olympics on August 8. Louie Abonador, Aicent senior director of sales for the CALA region said that a hallmark of Aicent eXchange services is the ease of deployment, insulating carriers and mobile operators from the complexities of international peering arrangements and interconnects.

With their extensive peering arrangements and interconnects, Aicent’s eXchange services make it possible for any telecom operator to offer subscribers global roaming, as well as to create new revenue stream by opening their own networks for roaming by subscribers of other Aicent customers. Abonador added that besides China, Iusacell will be using Aicent CRX services to extend data roaming in other regions of the world.

Aicent’s CRX is a cost-efficient and highly-scalable solution that enables the CDMA operators to offer a high-performance worldwide data roaming service with secured private IP network infrastructure and a broad range of application level support. ”

A large number of service providers have geared up to address the communications need for the upcoming Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Recently Coordinate Technologies finalized a bilateral roaming agreement with NTT Com under which NTT Com roaming subscribers will have trial access to over 900 Wi-Fi hotspots by connecting through the Coordinate interconnection platform. These hotspots are managed by China Mobile ( News - Alert) in six Olympic cities. China Mobile is an official partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
