Reliance Communications brings MMS Interoperability to India
Opens MMS gateway with China Mobile, China Unicom, Digi-Malaysia, Telstra-Australia,

Mumbai, November 2nd, 2006: In a pioneering move in the Indian mobile communication space, Reliance Communications today announced the launch of Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) Interoperability for its subscribers and many hundred million mobile subscribers world over. With the launch of the MMS interoperability service Reliance Mobile customers would be able to share their MMS pictures, videos and tones with subscribers of global telecom majors like China Mobile, China Unicom, Digi-Malaysia, Telstra – Australia and MTNL, to name a few. Reliance is currently in discussion and also, testing interoperability with other operators in India.

“Reliance has been at the forefront to introduce innovative services that have redefined mobile telephony and the way millions of customers use mobile phones” said Mahesh Prasad, President – Application Services Group, Reliance Communications. “There is an increasing trend in the usage of MMS and Camera Phones among mobile customers and over 2,50,000 MMS downloads were saved or sent from Reliance Mobile World during the recent festivals. Reliance Communications endeavors to create a global community of MMS users of which MMS interoperability is the first step”, he added.

This is part of Reliance’s ongoing effort towards building an operator-neutral mobile community across the globe. A similar such initiative was launched recently to bring mobile blogging on Reliance Mobile World (R World) which allows subscribers to share their photos or videos world over by wirelessly uploading the content on a website at the click of a button. Currently Reliance Mobile customers are charged Rs.5 per MMS.

The MMS interoperability service on Reliance Mobile has been supported by Aicent Inc., leading global data network services and solutions provider.
