NTT DoCoMo Selects Aicent GRX Service for 3G Roaming
San Jose, CA – January 25, 2007 –Aicent Inc., a leading provider of mobile data network services and solutions for global mobile operators, today announced that NTT DoCoMo (DoCoMo), (NYSE: DCM), the leading mobile communications company in Japan, has chosen to use Aicent GPRS Roaming Exchange (GRX) service to provide seamless global data roaming service to its 51 million customers.
The Aicent GRX offers DoCoMo's subscribers secure access to the i-mode and other 3G services offered by DoCoMo wherever they travel, an essential service enabled by the GRX network. Aicent has been operating its GRX network service since 2002, and is one of the largest GRX providers in the world today, with its network infrastructure in all major continents that reaches nearly all 2.5G and 3G mobile operators worldwide.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the number of mobile subscribers across Asia grew by 22 percent through 2006 to close to 1 billion while Japan's mobile subscriber base alone rose to over one hundred million. For DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile operator and the first in the world to offer 3G service, over 30% revenues today are already generated by advanced data services, a trend followed by mainstream global operators. As such, data roaming has become an increasingly important service offering and GRX a mission critical enabling infrastructure for the mobile industry.
"Aicent is proud to work with DoCoMo to provide our 3GRX service in Japan," said Lynn Liu, President and CEO of Aicent, "and we are confident to deliver a world class service as required by DoCoMo. This partnership highlights our continued progress and strong commitment to providing advanced data roaming, messaging and other next generation mobile data services to the global mobile operator community."
About NTT DoCoMo
The revolution that began with the invention of the mobile phone is changing our world, and NTT DoCoMo has always been at the leading edge of this revolution. Providing a wide variety of leading-edge mobile multimedia services to more than 51 million customers, NTT DoCoMo is one of the world leaders in mobile communications. Our 1999 launch of i-mode, the world's most popular mobile internet service providing e-mail and internet access to over 46 million subscribers, and then FOMA in 2001 as the world's first 3G mobile service based on W-CDMA transformed the landscape of mobile communications in Japan and won the DoCoMo brand global recognition. But these were just the first steps toward our goal of transforming the mobile phone in to a "lifestyle infrastructure." Introduced only recently, our "Osaifu-Keitai" (mobile phones with wallet functions) which multiplies the convenience of the handset with cashless transactions for everything from riding the subway to shopping already has 10 million subscribers - a perfect example of how NTT DoCoMo is not only leading in the field of mobile communications but redefining its role in our user's life. Through our branch offices and wholly owned subsidiaries in Asia, Europe, and North America, and in strategic alliances with mobile and multimedia service providers in Asia-Pacific and Europe, we are expanding our global reach. NTT DoCoMo will continue to help our user's communicate seamlessly around the world and redefine the role of mobile communications in our user's lives. For more information, please visit: www.nttdocomo.com.
