Aicent Extends GRX Service To Hutch in India
San Jose , CA, September 27, 2004 - Aicent, Inc. announced today that it has entered commercial GRX service contract with Hutch and Orange cellular services in India. Enabled by Aicent GRX, Hutch and Orange mobile users in India now can enjoy the same GPRS services when they travel abroad. Similarly, visitors to India will be able to access GPRS services through Hutch and Orange.
The cellular market in India is experiencing rapid growth. It currently has about 36 million mobile subscribers and is adding about 1.5 million subscribers each month, according to Telecom.com. Hutch and Orange collectively serve over 6 million mobile subscribers in India.
Speaking about the partnership, Harit Nagpal, Chief Marketing Officer, Hutch, said, "GPRS-based multimedia mobile applications are an important part of our service portfolio. We have been promoting various services on our GPRS platform and the frequency with which our subscribers use them tells us that they would need them even when they are traveling away from the home base. Hence providing these services while roaming becomes crucial. Our partnership with Aicent will enable us to enter into GPRS roaming arrangements with operators in international markets."
