Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery Service Overview

Today, despite the large uptake and use of MMS worldwide, many mobile operators have not completed MMS interworking. Those who have launched global MMS services drop large portions of outbound messages sent to unconnected operators. Messages to such destinations are rejected and Originating operators can not collect revenue for them. The Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery service feature extends MMS interoperability to subscribers whose mobile operator has not connected to the Aicent mobile operator customer. MMS-Virtual Delivery delivers MMS by allowing the recipient to download and reply to incoming MMS messages from a web URL link after an SMS notification. With MMS-Virtual Delivery, Aicent mobile operator customers can experience global MMS interoperability even before operators establish MMS interworking with them.

Eliminating Failed Messages Increases Revenue

With Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery, there would be virtually no failed message deliveries due to disparate MMS launch status of the terminating operators. Aicent mobile operator customers now can collect from the sender MMS revenue that would have been lost due to unsuccessful delivery. By using Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery, subscribers do not encounter failed message delivery due to disparate MMS deployments and can receive MMS regardless of operator’s MMS inter-connection status. Increasing successful MMS deliveries leads to better end-user experience, subscriber loyalty and greater usage, which translate to higher message volumes and revenues.

Key Benefits

Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery includes the following benefits:

  • Enables operator to collect additional revenue from failed messages
  • Increases satisfaction of mobile subscriber user experience
  • Facilitates delivery of oversized MMS
  • Enables operator to instantly offer global reach by deliver messages anywhere in the world and leveraging global SMS penetration
  • Facilitates 2 way Conversation by enabling reply from PC

MMS-Virtual Delivery Subscriber Experience

Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery uses SMS to notify the mobile subscriber of a received MMS. Since SMS is available globally to virtually any handset model, there are no interoperability issues for SMS notification. The Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery Web retrieval portal supports all major browsers and plays all major mobile media formats including text, image, audio and video.

Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery Message Flow

  • Aicent MMS hub receives an International MMS forward request
  • Aicent MMS hub determines if the MMS can be delivered to the destination number via direct connection or via relay/peering partner connections
  • Aicent MMS hub determines the destination number can not be reached via MMS interoperability network
  • The message is forwarded to Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery System
  • MMS-Virtual Delivery stores the message on a web server for future retrieval by the recipient
  • MMS-Virtual Delivery will send a text message (SMS) to the subscriber, with a web URL where the message can be retrieved and temporary login id/password
  • Subscribers can then go to the web URL and view the message from the Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery web portal
  • Receiving mobile subscriber can choose to reply back to the originating mobile subscriber using the Aicent MMS-Virtual Delivery web portal
