Aicent RIM Connectivity VPN Architecture

Aicent has created a special routing domain (RIM Connectivity VPN) for Blackberry related traffic over existing GRX or CRX connections. This would ensure the exiting GPRS roaming traffic will not be exposed to Blackberry traffic and vice versa.

The connection from operator’s Gi subnet to RIM Data Centre is recommended to use redundant GRE tunnels over Aicent network through the exiting GRX or CRX connections. Aicent would recommend using a public IP address to the GRE tunnel for each operator according to PRD IR.34, where the IP address is only routable within GRX/CRX backbone to ensure the security. As mentioned in previous section, RIM is to connect to Aicent GRX/CRX network as a virtual operator. All of the security requirements from PRD IR.34 will be followed. Operator should be able to reach to RIM’s server farm whenever the GRE tunnel is up and running. The network architecture is illustrated below
